Video production
Most corporate video fails before the camera is switched on, because nobody decided what it was for or who was meant to watch it. That is where the work starts, and it usually results in a shorter, cheaper, more useful film than the one originally requested.
What video production involves
Deciding the job the film has to do
A product explainer, a recruitment film, a case study and a trade stand loop are four different projects with different lengths and different scripts. Trying to make one film do all four is why so much of it is nine minutes long and unwatched.
Produced properly on a sensible budget
Script, shot list, sound, lighting and direction on the day, then editing, grading and a proper mix. Bad audio ruins a film faster than modest camerawork, and it is the thing most often economised on.
Cut for where it will be seen
One shoot produces the versions you need: the main film, short social cuts in vertical and square, subtitled versions for silent autoplay, and stills pulled from the footage. Planned in advance this costs very little extra and afterwards it costs another shoot.
