Retouching and image manipulation
Photo retouching is what turns a good photograph into a usable asset. Colour that matches the product, backgrounds that work in a layout, blemishes and reflections removed, and the whole set looking as though it was shot on the same day, which it usually was not.
What photo retouching involves
Product and catalogue retouching
Cut outs with clean edges, shadows that look real, colour corrected against the actual product rather than the screen, and consistency across a whole range. This is the work that decides whether a catalogue looks considered or assembled.
Composites and manipulation
Combining elements that were never in the same frame, extending a background to fit a format, replacing a sky, or building a scene that could not practically be photographed. Done carefully enough that nobody notices, which is the point.
Working to a brand standard
Where you have a defined look for imagery, the work follows it, so photography from several sources and several years still reads as one brand.
