Desktop publishing
Desktop publishing is the unglamorous end of design: long documents, many pages, strict formats and copy that keeps changing. Manuals, reports, price lists, catalogues, tenders and technical documentation.
Documents are set up so the hundredth page costs no more effort than the tenth. Proper paragraph and character styles, master pages, automatic contents and numbering, and linked text flow, which means a late change to the copy reflows correctly instead of breaking the layout.
The work is done in InDesign and handed over as packaged files with fonts and links intact, so next year the document is an update rather than a rebuild, whoever does it.
